High volume orders from our customers has created double-digit growth and going into the new year, we need to add more welders the Second Shift team in our Temple, Texas location to keep up with production commitments.

Summary: Welds together metal components for THI products and performs the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Obtains specified welding wire type and wire size for given welding machine and weld application.
  • Connects welding cables to welding unit and adjust settings to the correct amperage, voltage, power slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
  • Use correct welding techniques to travel welding torch along weld joint, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from appearance of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, or vertical positions.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other characteristics.
  • Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
  • Cleans, degreases, and wire wheels weld joint or work piece.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  • Cleans off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Preheats work piece with hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  • Tacks assemblies together.


Education/Training/Experience:
High School diploma/GED or technical school; or one to two years of related experience.

Able to successfully complete 1" groove welder qualification plate test.

Ability to follow safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Skills:
Successfully demonstrate welding proficiency in pre-employment weld test.

Demonstrate math proficiency as it relates to this job.
